Marsh Front Boardwalks

Extending into Jarvis Creek run the museum’s three educational boardwalks, positioned for exploring the tidal creek that borders the museum’s property. These boardwalks and trails are lined with informative interpretive panels on the natural and cultural features of the waterways, estuaries, salt marshes found on and around Hilton Head Island, as well as the abundant marine and wildlife that inhabit them.

Timelapse of the Ever-Changing Salt Marsh

The Coastal Discovery Museum is partnering with Chronolog chronolog.io to engage visitors is a community science project. A photo station has been created near the end of the Osprey Outlook Boardwalk at the Coastal Discovery Museum. Visitors can place their phone in the bracket, snap a picture of the salt marsh and tidal creek, and send it to the email address posted on the Chronolog sign. The photos are then stitched together to create a timelapse video.

The salt marsh is an important habitat that is constantly changing from season-to-season, day-to-day, and even minute-to-minute. This project is a great way to monitor those changes and allow people from all over the country to observe this exceptional habitat. We hope that our visitors will contribute to our photo collection and enjoy learning more about the salt marsh.
