Meets at the Coastal Discovery Museum

Explore the vibrant salt marsh habitat firsthand at the Coastal Discovery Museum. Join our guided tour to meet its diverse critters and hear entertaining stories about their lives. After this encounter with march critters, you'll never look at your local landscape the same way again!

  • Marsh Critters is tailored to students ages 5-7 (older students welcome, too).
  • All children must be accompanied and supervised by a registered adult chaperone.
  • Limited spots available; only registered guests admitted into the program area.

HORSESHOE CRAB
HEROES

April 16th – 12:30-2:00pm

Meets at the Coastal Discovery Museum

This environmental education experience inspires and challenges students to take action. They’ll meet live horseshoe crabs, discover their importance and learn what we can do to help protect them. While making a 3D paper model of a horseshoe crab, they’ll learn about its anatomy and its fascinating life cycle.

Students take home their newfound knowledge along with directions for the Horseshoe Crab Heroes poster project. Projects are submitted to the Coastal Discovery Museum and used to promote environmental awareness throughout the community. Selected works will be displayed in our annual Conservation in the Classroom exhibition (July/August). Join us in making a difference!

SEA TURTLES

May 2nd – 1:00-2:00pm

Meets at the Coastal Discovery Museum

It’s sea turtle time! Every May, loggerhead sea turtles start nesting on Hilton Head Island. These amazing creatures live extraordinary lives. Students will explore their incredible journey from egg to adulthood. We’ll also look at how human behavior can affect sea turtles and what we can do to help protect them.

Students are encouraged to join our Saving Sea Turtles project and create their own sea turtle art using items rescued from the trash. Projects are submitted to the Coastal Discovery Museum and used to promote environmental awareness throughout the community. DOLPHIN DEFENDERS
DOLPHIN CRUISE

May 13th – 12:30-3:00pm

Meets at Broad Creek Marina

Students embark on an educational cruise through the waters and salt marshes of Broad Creek, exploring the world of the bottlenose dolphin. While looking for dolphins, students learn about the traits and adaptations of this charismatic marine mammal and how we can help protect them.

Students take home newfound knowledge along with directions to participate in the Dolphin Defenders letter or poem writing project. Projects are submitted to the Coastal Discovery Museum and used to promote environmental awareness throughout the community. Selected submissions will be displayed in our annual Conservation in the Classroom exhibition (July/August).

  • Dolphin Defenders is tailored to students ages 9 and older (all ages can enjoy the Dolphin and Nature Cruise).
  • All children must be accompanied and supervised by a registered adult chaperone.
  • Limited spots available; only registered guests admitted into the program area.

Meet in the Broad Creek Marine parking lot (between the marina and zipline) at 12:30 pm. We will be on the water from 1 pm - 2:30 pm. The boat departs on time.

DOLPHIN CRUISE
