Botanica: Contemporary Views from Nature builds on the long tradition of botanical art, where artists capture the natural world through close attention to form and detail. This exhibition features 17 contemporary artists who invite viewers to reflect on the beauty, fragility, and power of the ecosystems that sustain us.

Diverse Artistic Perspectives on Nature

Using a wide range of formal and experimental approaches, the featured artists explore plants and fungi through various media, including:

Together, these works reflect an enduring fascination with the organic world and expand how we see and understand it.

A Mission of Environmental Stewardship

“Botanica exemplifies the Coastal Discovery Museum’s mission to inspire people to care for the Lowcountry and take an active role in protecting our fragile environment in the wider world,” said Elizabeth Greenberg, Director of Exhibitions.

Camellia Garden Talk & Tour

Camellias are fascinating plants with a rich history. While they are not native to the American continent, they have been part of the southern landscape since the 1700s. Tour the Manske Camellia Garden, home to more than 135 species, and learn tips for growing and caring for these “winter roses.” Program includes a short walk on uneven terrain and sturdy walking shoes are recommended.

The Camellia Garden Talk & Tour program will resume in the winter. Please check back in December for dates and times.
