Coastal Discovery Museum Hosts Ribbon Cutting for Renovated Dragonfly Pond
WHAT:
The Coastal Discovery Museum is hosting a ribbon-cutting event to officially reopen the renovated Dragonfly Pond. Volunteers, including an Eagle Scout and his advisors, worked alongside staff for months to completely refurbish the pond, including native wetland plants and surrounding structure. The Dragonfly Pond, created in 2014, is celebrating its 10th anniversary.
WHEN:
Monday, June 3, 9 a.m.
WHERE:
Coastal Discovery Museum, 70 Honey Horn Drive, Hilton Head, SC 29926
WHO:
- Rex Garniewicz, President and CEO of the Coastal Discovery Museum
- Wendy Dickes, Manager of Horticulture and Project Manager
- Eagle Scout Warren Hollingsworth, HHIHS junior, and Troop 222 Scoutmaster Jacquie Gutierrez
- Pond project volunteers
WHY:
To honor the collaborative efforts of Museum staff, volunteers, Eagle Scouts and others in creating and maintaining a vital habitat for dragonflies. These insects play a crucial role in the Lowcountry ecosystem by feeding on mosquitos and serving as prey for birds and fish. The pond project exemplifies the Museum’s mission to inspire people to care for the Lowcountry and its values to foster community engagement, provide educational opportunities, and promote environmental stewardship.
