Love the Lowcountry?
Coastal Discovery Museum is searching for enthusiastic volunteers to join our summer volunteer team! Every Wednesday and/or Friday morning, we need reliable individuals to assist as animal handlers and greeters. These are 2-hours shifts 1-2 days per week through the summer, for ages 16 and up.
Interested in joining our team? Attend our upcoming Critter Meet and Greet training/info session on Wednesday, May 31st, from 10:30-11:30 am at the Museum. To reserve your spot at this session, please contact Dawn Brut at 843 689 6767 x228 or email [email protected].
What To Expect

Handle Animals
As a Critter Meet and Greet Animal Handler, you'll showcase your exceptional people skills while learning more about the fascinating wildlife of the Lowcountry. Your role will involve educating guests about local reptiles, handling animals with visitors, and ensuring everyone follows our safety protocols (don't worry, we provide additional training).
Butterfly Guide
As a Butterfly Learning Station volunteer, you'll welcome guests, start a butterfly conversation, and have the opportunity to share what you know with guests of all ages. The Butterfly Habitat is a pretty magical facility where butterflies go through all four life stages.
Host a Lab
The Exploratory Laboratory needs outgoing and friendly volunteers to help guests observe live animals and examine shells, bones, teeth, and molts under a microscope. Volunteers can choose to be a greeter or host.
