Join us at the Coastal Discovery Museum for a workshop and learn to do a botanical herbarium. A botanical herbarium is a systematically arranged collection of mounted, dried plants to be used for reference. A collection could be of a Tidal Marsh, local flowers, trees, etc. Bring your own or use what we have gathered during the fall from the Heirloom Garden at Coastal Discovery Museum. From the collections you can do an assemblage of your favorite plants and flowers on Mary Leto's handmade paper OR we will sketch/draw with pencil - thumbnail sketches on tracing paper with some illustrating tricks to help us "see" all components of a successful composition using traditional formulas - negative spaces, light and shadow, background and foreground. The final sketch will be readied for transfer to quality paper or canvas for a drawing or a painting. Robin will assist with poetic prose to add to your creation. Artists: painter Mira Scott, conceptual illustrator and paper artist Mary C. Leto and writer/poet Elizabeth Robin will teach the class.
The workshop is offered April 21 from 2-4 pm; Cost is $45 per person and reservations are required by continuing online or calling 843-689-6767 ext. 223 (age appropriate for 10 and older)
