Volunteers and Interns
The core of
the Coastal Discovery Museum is its Volunteers, both adult and students.
Over 175 adult volunteers fill a variety of roles by operating the Museum
Store, taking reservations for the Tours and Cruises and special events offered
by the Museum, working on special fund raising events, coordinating bulk
mailing efforts, and performing clerical duties. |
|
The rewards for this devotion include free admission to affiliate museums
throughout the nation. Museum volunteers also receive a discount on the
merchandise and events offered through the Museum and the opportunity to
participate in monthly Museum Volunteer Outings. These trips have included
visits to Spring Island, historic Bluffton, and CharlesTowne Landing outside of
Charleston. Volunteers also receive a montly update of Museum happenings and
are invited to special events. |

Volunteering at the Museum is a fantastic way to become
involved in the community. Many recently relocated individuals form new
friendships that lasts over years. Additionally, many volunteers enjoy learning
more about the islands environment and history. |
|
College students also have participated in the Museums Internship
Program. Depending upon the interests of the individual, Museum staff
develop a program that stimulates and educates the student in their potential
career field. Previous interns have focused on exhibit development and
installation, environmental education, and wildlife research through the Sea
Turtle Protection Project.
