Sea Island
Bio-Diversity
|
On the second
floor, the "Biodiversity A Sea Island Classroom"
exhibit is installed. This exhibit focuses on the importance of maintaining a
variety of wildlife and plants not only on our island but from around the
world. Integral components include information about the diversity of life in
our region, displays of local wildlife, preserved from the beach, salt marsh,
and fresh water areas of the island, and presentations from around the world
that have important biodiversity messages to convey. |
| |
| Some of the presentations and
displays include creatures such as local pond turtles and snakes. These
presentations are used to help impart the important lessons of biodiversity
along with their preserved counterparts like the ridley sea turtle, loggerhead
sea turtle and alligator. |

The Sea Island
Classroom is used to hold educational programs for school children
and scout groups, but it is also open to the public. Many children enjoy
playing GeoSafari, or creating a map of Hilton Head to take home, while adults
enjoy using the stereoscopes to better observe the microscopic world around
them. A video library on site is enjoyed by guests of all ages as they watch
the documentary of the Museums important Sea Turtle Protection Project,
or the award-winning Television History of Hilton Head Island.
